Mr. Afolayan, an illiterate, was on Friday sworn-in as chairman along with Bayode Ayeni and Owolabi Ajewole, who were appointed for Ikole and Ijero councils respectively, Mr. Fayose said many of the champions of democracy in Nigeria depended on illiterates to survive electioneering campaigns, lamenting that such persons were forgotten as soon as the politicians got to power. “In my government, whether you are educated or not, you will get something. The vote of a professor and an illiterate is the same,” he assured. “So, under my administration, those who are not educated can rise to any level they want.” Adding a rare drama to the event, Mr. Fayose, at the ceremony, appointed a graduate as personal assistant for Mr. Afolayan. You are a ‘garage boy’, Orubebe attacks Oshiomhole again

Image
ABUJA—The verbal war  between the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe and Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, Wednesday, worsened with the ex-minister calling Oshiomhole a ‘garage boy,’ vowing to expose his dubious deeds against Nigerians. Orubebe, who reacted to Oshiomhole’s response to his (Orubebe’s) earlier remarks on him, said that Oshiomhole’s attempt to link his critical advice to President Muhammadu Buhari to be wary of popular ‘Villa sycophants’ to his fears of a possible probe in connection with the East- West Road project shows he was indeed a garage boy who lacks focus. Orubebe who described the governor’s insinuation as laughable, maintained that the Edo governor had failed to address the issue of sycophancy which he accused him of. He said that Oshiomhole was suffering from chronic diarrhoea of the mouth, which explains why he has lately been misleading Nigerians, adding that his illiteracy was beyond human comprehension. In furtherance to this desire, we had refuted a constitutional amendment as reflected in section 8(11) of the PDP constitution and in August 2010, the National Executive Committee approved the policy. I’m appealing to all Nigerians to come and join us. There is room for everybody. Journalists here are also free to join us and become our members.”he said

A court in Saudi Arabia has dropped the charges of manslaughter and sexual assault against the father of Luma, the 5-year-old daughter he had beaten to death in 2011. His sentence was reduced to only the charge of 'excessive disciplining that resulted in death'. According to Saudi Daily Al Sharq, the decision was taken after no trace of semen was found on her body.  Luma’s case became widely known in 2012 when details emerged of how she was tortured by her father during a visit to him and his new wife. Reports said that the father used wires and an iron rod to punish his daughter after he had expressed doubts about her virginity. Luma died after four months in coma and was not buried for another four months pending the investigation and the autopsy procedures. In 2013, a court in Hawtat Bani Tamim, 160 kilometres south of the capital Riyadh, sentenced Al Gamdi to eight years in prison and 800 lashes and his second wife to 10 months in prison and 150 lash
