Sango-Ota (Ogun) – A 28-year-old man, Kelvin Michael, who allegedly raped a woman to death, was on Friday arraigned in Ota, Ogun.Michael, who lives at No. 21 Abebi St., Sango-Ota, is facing murder charge at an Ota Magistrates’ Court. A state counsel, Mr Bale Nimnan, told court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 14 at 11.00 a.m. at his residence in Sango-Ota. Nimnan said the accused had several rounds of sex with the 40-year-old woman, Monsura Idowu, which resulted in her death. Mr Tunde Akinola, counsel to the accused, urged the magistrate to grant the accused pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). He noted that advice from the DPP usually take longer time, adding that if the accused was remanded in prison he might stay in custody longer than nencessary. Seven gunmen have been sentenced to death by an Ondo state High Court on Thursday sitting in Akure, the state’s capital. The convicted armed robbers, who are to die by hanging, were said to be involved in the killing of an American-based businessman, Banji Adafin, who had return to Nigeria for vacation. The seven young men: Jimoh Sodiq a.k.a Akamo, Blessing Ogunlade, Yomi Balogun a.k.a Regal, Oluwaseun Oluwalola a.k.a Iyan, Akeem Adedayo, Oso John Omoniyi a.k.a Bosco and Sodiq Babatunde were found guilty of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit murder and for illegal possession of firearms. Special assistant to the president of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) on media and publicity, Ochendo McSmith, confirmed the demise. Osuji was a native of Umuokoro Awaka in Owerri North Local Government of Imo State. He is survived by his wife and four children. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has fined DAAR Communications (owner of AIT/Raypower) N500,000 for persistent violation of the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. NBC’s Head of Public Affair, Maimuna Jimada, via a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, said comments made on Raypower’s programme “Political Platform” was against the broadcasting code. Mrs Jimada said that the organisation was sanctioned due to “provocative, inflammatory and divisive comments” by anchors of the political platform. She said the Commission on May 2, 2017, Aug. 15, 2017 and February 2018, held meetings with staff of DAAR Communications to caution them on unprofessional manner of anchors of the programme. She stated that the Commission had charged the team handling the programme to be fair, and balance their reportage. Ondo State Police command has arrested Adeyemi Alao suspected to be the killer of the daughter of former Deputy Governor of the state, Miss Khadijat Oluboyo. Khadijat, daughter of Lasisi Oluboyo who was also a one-time Commissioner in Ex-Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s Cabinet was found dead in Alao’s residence on Sunday. Sources said the deceased had died almost six days before her corpse was discovered inside her boyfriend the room. The suspect was said to be staying permanently in Abuja. It was learnt that Alao had made attempts to bury Khadijat’s corpse in his house at Oke-Aro area of Akure. According to a source, he had dug a grave in the room, before nemesis caught up with him. The three biological children and seven other family members of a Nigerian Lawmaker, Alhaji Saidu Yarkufoji, a member of Zamfara State House of Assembly, representing Bakura State Constituency, have been buried. The burial ceremony of the late family members of the lawmaker, came after the Zamfara Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday confirmed their death in an auto crash. NAN reported that other family members of the lawmaker, who died in the accident were four of his grandchildren, his two sisters and his driver. The accident which occurred along Sokoto-Gusau road on Sunday, was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Route Commander Nasiru Ahmed, who said that the crash was a head-on collision between a Volkswagen Golf car and a Coca-Cola truck. Ahmed said that out of the 10 persons, who died in the car conveying 12 passengers, nine were female.He said that the other two persons who sustained various degrees of injuries, were still receiving t
