Seven gunmen have been sentenced to death by an Ondo state High Court on Thursday sitting in Akure, the state’s capital. The convicted armed robbers, who are to die by hanging, were said to be involved in the killing of an American-based businessman, Banji Adafin, who had return to Nigeria for vacation. The seven young men: Jimoh Sodiq a.k.a Akamo, Blessing Ogunlade, Yomi Balogun a.k.a Regal, Oluwaseun Oluwalola a.k.a Iyan, Akeem Adedayo, Oso John Omoniyi a.k.a Bosco and Sodiq Babatunde were found guilty of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit murder and for illegal possession of firearms. The serial and notorious killer, Adeola Williams, alias Ade Lawyer, who was arrested by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police’ (IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT) – has been paraded at the Lagos state police command. Touted to be the most notorious assassin in the southwest region, Williams was arrested alongside his accomplice, Rafiu Olorunwa Akanni, aka Olorunwa, a former Lagos NURTW boss, who hired him. A section of the technical room of the National Assembly’s Senate wing is currently on fire. The technical room is located at the ground floor of the Assembly compound. Staff and other workers are currently leaving their offices to avoid being trapped as smoke fills up the walkways. Senators who were initially seated in the gallery area have also moved out. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Staff are making attempts to put out the fire with fire extinguishers. One staff member familiar with the technical room said the fire started at where air conditioners units serving the assembly are kept.

The mystery snake was said to have sneaked into the account office of the Board in Makurdi, a number of time, and made away with the N36m. A sales clerk, Philomina Chieshe, told JAMB registrar and his team that she could not account for the N36m she made in previous years before the abolition of scratch cards. In the course of interrogation, Philomena denied the allegations that she stole the money.

As a result of the Christmas break, the shop owners were not around to put out the fire or salvage any of their goods, hence resulting in major damages before the fire was eventually put out. On hearing news of the incident, shop owners who were affected lamented over the huge loss. One of the victims who owns a big bookshop, Patrick Adedeji, narrated his plight to Channels Television. “I was at the Redemption camp in Lagos when I started seeing strange calls on my phone. I managed to answer one and I was informed that my shop was on fire. Some of my people rushed down here but before then, everything was burnt.
