The Lagos state police command says 20 kidnappers were killed during the process of rescuing the six abducted students of Igbonla-Epe Model College . Fatai Owoseni, the state commissioner of police, said this on Friday while briefing journalists on the rescue operation. The boys were released on Friday – 64 days after they were kidnapped in their school premises. He, however, regretted that one civilian volunteer died during the rescue process while eight policemen and four other civilian volunteers sustained injuries. Owoseni said the rescue of the children did not come immediately because security agencies were being careful not to get hurt them. “We have responsible security agencies that don’t want to sacrifice the lives of those children. Our objective was to do everything possible to get these children alive, unhurt and that’s exactly what has happened,” he said. The six students of the Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, Epe, who were kidnapped on May 25th by unknown gunmen, have regained their freedom. The kidnappers of the students released them in Ajakpa Community in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State. Lagos State Governor; Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday in Zurich, Switzerland led a team of the State Executive Committee members to sign an agreement with Bühler AG (“Bühler”), a leading rice-mill producer in the world, for the acquisition of a 32 tonnes per hour Rice Mill. The Governor, who spoke shortly after the signing ceremony, said the development was in furtherance of his vision of enhancing food security and creating employment in the State. It is estimated that the partnership would facilitate the creation of about 200,000 jobs across the agriculture value chain, while it would also bring about the cultivation of 32,000 hectares of farm land to produce rice paddy, equating to an estimated 130million Kg of processed rice per year (an equivalent of 2.6milion 50kg bags of rice). A 37 year-old civil servant in Kwara State, Mr Biodun Baba, was on Thursday arraigned in a magistrate’s court in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital. The court is presided over by Mr Ahmad Dasuki. Baba, who is said to be a primary school teacher and a member of the All Progressives Congress, was accused of making uncomplimentary and inciting post on his Facebook page against the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
